Fit & Condition Guide

FIT:
Okay. Let's try to make this as easy as possible, shall we? Sometimes buying vintage clothing can be intimidating because of inconsistent sizing. Let's be real though, even modern brands can vary. Heck, our bodies vary! So what do we recommend?
  • Start an intimate relationship with a tape measure. Really. Know your measurements and when shopping IRL, bring a measuring tape with you.
  • Measure your best, most favorite, fitting garment. Then, compare with the measurements of the vintage garment that you have your eye on. If it's about the same, it should fit in the way you like!
  • Galipette measures each garment in the same way, described below.
  • Ask us! Dont' be shy, send us a message and we're happy to help you figure out if a garment will work for you.
All measurements are taken while the garment is flat. Reference the image above as a visual aid for how the measurements are taken below:

A. Shoulder to Shoulder- from shoulder seam to shoulder seam on the back of the garment

B. Bust- from underarm to underarm (pit to pit) across the bust and doubled

C. Waist- at the natural waist across and doubled

D. Hips- at the widest point of the hip across and doubled

E. Total Length- from top of shoulder to hem

F. Sleeve Length- from shoulder seam to cuff

MODERN SIZING (approximate):

xs (0, 2) | 32-34 | 24-25 | 36-37

s (4, 6) | 34-36 | 26-27 | 37-39

m (8,10) | 36-38 | 28-29 | 39-41

CONDITION:

Information is so important when purchasing online and especially when purchasing vintage. We try our absolute best to be as informative and transparent as possible and indicate any flaws, issues, and/or imperfections in the description of each garment. Additionally, we provide the following condition rating:

Mint: Not a single flaw to note. Pristine, no signs of wear at all, most likely unworn. Very rare...a real gem.
Near mint: Appears to be in new condition and never used. On super-close inspection, one or two barely detectable signs of wear remind us it’s not new, and was probably used 2-3 times, if that.
Excellent: Item shows only the slightest signs of wear, typical from occasional use. No major flaws to report.
Very good: A few minor surface flaws. Imperfections do not affect wear and do not detract from garment.
Good: Minor flaws, some noticeable when worn, but easily overlooked. Structurally sound and wearable.

Big gratitude to the fabulous SwaneeGrace for these comprehensive condition ratings.
